A Class of Reversible Variable Length Codes for Robust Image and Video Coding
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a class of parameterized reversible variable length codes that have length distributions identical to Golomb-Rice codes and exp-Golomb codes. The pdfs to which these codes correspond are well matched to statistics of image and video data, thus enabling an increase in robustness to channel errors with no penalty in coding e ciency. These codes are applicable to MPEG-4 and other algorithms that aim to use variable length codes in error-prone environments. 1

Robust image and video coding with pyramid vector quantisation
Most current image and video coding standards use variable length codes to achieve compression, which renders the compressed bitstream very sensitive to channel errors. In this paper, image and video coders based on Pyramid Vector Quantisation (PVQ) and using only fixed length codes are proposed. Still image coders using PVQ in conjunction with DCT and wavelet techniques are described and their...

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) recently adopted reversible variable length codes (RVLCs) for use in the emerging H.263+ video compression standard. As the name suggests, these codes can be decoded in two directions and can therefore be used by a decoder to enhance robustness in the presence of transmission bit errors. In addition, these RVLCs involve little or no eeciency loss...

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...
